Summary
The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) Standards Committee provides advice to Integrity Systems Company (ISC) on the technical performance of identification devices against the relevant Standards and Protocols, advice on operational matters associated with device accreditation, and recommends any required changes to Standards and Protocols. They ensure our current NLIS tags and future NLIS tags are fit for purpose and are meeting the standards and protocols.
This project covered the costs of the NLIS Standards Committee Chair, who convened four NLIS committee meetings per financial year, as well as providing adhoc input into out of session meetings.
Objectives
The consultant undertook the role of chairman of the NLIS Standards Committee, and assisted ISC to supervise the conduct of field trials undertaken to assess identification devices for ISC accreditation. This involved attendance at trials to ensure compliance with the requirements of trial protocols.
The consultant also assisted in the development and implementation of strategies to support the ongoing monitoring of devices that have obtained ISC accreditation, and assisted in the resolution of the more difficult operational issues that may arise in relation to the management of ISC accredited devices.
Benefits to industry
The chair of the NLIS is independently appointed by SAFEMEAT to ensure the assessment and ongoing review of NLIS approved and trialed devices are assessed to the current NLIS standards and protocols to ensure they continue to deliver for the redmeat industry. That means the chair provides recommendations for solutions to be approved or not to ISC.
