2026 Bestwool Bestlamb (BWBL) and BetterBeef Conference and dinner
Agriculture Victoria's BestWool/BestLamb (BWBL) and BetterBeef conferences are returning in 2026.
After taking the conference 'on the road' around Victoria in 2025, we're back to the full-scale conference format in Ballarat, and it's bigger than ever.
The conferences will feature keynote addresses and concurrent sessions, allowing participants to tailor their day to their interests and needs. Speakers will inform, challenge, and excite with the most up-to-date industry research and practical strategies that can be implemented on farm.
The BetterBeef conference on June 24, features 2 programs running concurrently to meet the needs of all beef producers.
Whole Farm Beef Systems:
The Whole Farm Beef Systems program covers a range of beef production topics of interest to operators of pasture-based beef production systems. The program includes topics on beef markets, business management and risk, maternal productivity, pastures, surviving drought, feeding, animal health and virtual fencing.
Feeder Steer Masterclass.
Every year Victoria sees a stream of B Doubles picking up loads of yearling steers consigned directly to feedlots in SA, NSW and QLD. It’s perhaps the most standardised beef production system in the state – calve in Aug/Sep just before pasture growth fires up, join in Nov/Dec when the cows are guaranteed a rising plane of nutrition, wean in Feb as pasture quality deteriorates, supplementary feed the weaners through until pasture has responded to the autumn break and sell feeders once the abundant high quality spring pasture has got them close to capping out on entry weights. The Feeder Steer Masterclass, a deep dive into steer production, provides an intensive look into the latest thinking, research and extension and analysis of the feeder steer supply chain. The program takes its inspiration from the very popular UNE Feeder Steer School.
This event is proudly delivered by Agriculture Victoria as part of the Victorian Government's statewide Drought Support Package in partnership with Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) Extension VIC, supported by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).
