This year MLA is excited to launch a new approach to extension and adoption called Profitable Grazing Systems (PGS). Profitable Grazing Systems will be a game changer for participating producers, driving transformational business productivity and profitability change through a supported learning approach. PGS has a whole farm business approach linking all aspects of business performance, and has been designed to complement existing delivery programs and build the capacity of deliverers. It will build on the success of previous programs including Making More from Sheep, More Beef from Pastures and Farm 300.

The program provides an opportunity for service providers who are focussed on making a measurable difference to the business performance of red meat producers through the delivery of high quality, high value extension and adoption programs that build producer skills and support practice change. Profitable Grazing Systems will provide:

  • A delivery platform that allows you to build your business and be remunerated recognising the real value of your skills and services
  • Assistance to gather evidence to demonstrate the value of the learning projects you deliver – your proof of profit story to use in engaging producers
  • Information about new and useful RD&A outputs from MLA and access to a mentoring and peer support network with professional development opportunities
  • Assistance in recruiting producers

This webinar is for interested service providers and will include a brief overview of Profitable Grazing Systems and the opportunities for and requirements of deliverers. The webinar will be recorded and available on the MLA website for those who are unable to attend.

Future PGS deliverer webinars are also planned on topics such as supported learning methodology and writing supported learning projects, monitoring and evaluation and economic modelling of program impact. Dates will be advised shortly and these webinars will also be recorded.

MLA will be working more closely with red meat industry service providers in Profitable Grazing Systems. To facilitate effective communications with service providers MLA is creating a service provider database. This will enable communications to be more effectively targeted to service providers regarding professional development or commercial delivery opportunities. To register on this database and be kept up to date by MLA’s Adoption team on relevant opportunities please complete this short survey. Registering your interest does not commit you to delivering PGS or any other MLA program. It will allow you to designate how you’d like to be contacted and what information you would like to receive.

The program is in the early stages of implementation with recruitment for the coordination team currently underway. In the meantime, interim PGS program coordinators Leanne Sherriff and Basil Doonan are available for any queries regarding the program:

Leanne Sherriff: 0429 329 349 or lsherriff@macfrank.com.au

Basil Doonan: 0400 455 158 or bdoonan@macfrank.com.au
