Barkly Herd Management Forum
The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (DITT) will be holding the biennial Barkly Herd Management Forum on the 11th and 12th of October 2021 at Brunette Downs Station
The course is for middle management such as head stockmen, overseers and assistant managers to interact with experts in various fields and learn from each other as to the best management practices for the Barkly region. The forum runs over 2 days with arrivals from Sunday the 10th of October.
Topics vary each year to forum to ensure returning participants are presented with new information. This year topics include grazing land management, heifer management, leadership skills, pasture technologies, correct procedural techniques (post mortem, specimen collection, biosecurity, etc), benchmarking, and its importance to the profitability of a beef business. At each forum DITT staff provide participants with an understanding of the implications of current Northern Territory research results. Presenters are urged to ensure sessions are interactive and provide key take home messages, ideas and strategies that each participant can implement in their own situation.
