Implementing and optimising genomic prediction tools: Field day

Join the SheepMetriX team at a practical field day in Cavendish, Victoria, to learn how genomic technologies can support more informed breeding and selection decisions in commercial Merino enterprises. 

This field day forms part of the 'Implementing and optimising genomic prediction tools' Producer Demonstration Site (PDS) project, which is demonstrating how current and emerging genetic and genomic tools can be integrated into commercial sheep operations to improve genetic gain and productivity.  

Presented by Sally Martin (SheepMetriX) and Gary Simpson (SHEEP-TRAX), attendees will gain practical insights into: 

• what Australian Sheep Genomic Values (ASgVs) are and how they work 

• using ASgVs and ASBVs to support ram and ewe selection decisions 

• timing DNA sampling to align with key management decisions 

• a producer case study from James Young, Eulong 

• cost-benefit considerations and on-farm applications of genomic technologies 

• inspection of foundation ewes and progeny involved in the project breeding program.
