Macintyre Ag Alliance is partnering with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and Smithfield Cattle Company to host a beef producers’ forum at Sapphire Feedlot Wednesday 18 November.

Macintyre Ag Alliance President John Cranney said the forum, ‘Making and Marketing Your Meat’, will feature an exciting line-up of speakers, as well as a guided feedlot tour with Smithfield Cattle Company Managing Director Jason Shearer-Smith.

“Located 32km east of Goondiwindi, Sapphire Feedlot is a 20,000-head state-of-the-art facility on 3712ha, including irrigation farming and backgrounding paddocks with improved pastures,’ John said.

“We are very excited that Sapphire is opening its gates to producers and offering them the chance to gain a better understanding of where their produce progresses to in the supply chain after the farm gate, and the markets the feedlot targets.”

John said the forum will also be a great opportunity for producers to stay up to date with the latest insights into red meat research, production and technologies.

“UNE meat scientist Peter McGilchrist will discuss macro food trends and the two different avenues farmers can take to achieve a quality beef product,” he said.

“MLA’s Laura Garland will explain the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) program, market trends and factors that affect eating quality, and local agent, Andrew Wilkie from Objective Livestock Marketing, will discuss how to use on-farm livestock data collection to make better marketing decisions.

“We will also hear from Meandarra producer Karen Penfold of Four Daughters beef, who will share the challenges and rewards involved in producing premium branded beef to both domestic and international markets.”

Attendees will also enjoy delicious Jack’s Creek beef for lunch, as well as drinks and networking at the event’s conclusion, all overlooking the beautiful Dumaresq river.
