Foot-and-Mouth Disease online awareness course
19 January 2017
Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is an exotic disease that does not occur in Australia. It affects cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, deer, camelids, buffalo and elephants.
The Queensland Government has developed an online awareness course to help people understand:
- the risks of FMD to Australia
- what can be done to help prevent the virus reaching and infecting susceptible livestock
- the possible clinical signs of FMD to look out for
- what to do if the disease is suspected.
The course is relevant to anyone who works with livestock as well as the whole community. If you suspect the presence of this disease in any species of animal, you must report it to the Emergency Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888. Click here to enrol in the course.
