Australia-European Union FTA negotiations progress
As the European summer draws to a close, MLA has maintained its strong presence in market, as negotiations continue for the Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (A-EU FTA).
Activities such as the recent annual MLA Brussels BBQ, held in the shadows of the European Union parliament, provide a perfect opportunity to engage with MLAs influential network of policymakers in the European Parliament and emphasise the need for strengthening of our trading relations.
MLA in partnership with industry has been active on briefing Australia’s trade negotiators on priorities for the A-EU FTA. This follows the first round of negotiations, which were held in Brussels in July, and with the second round scheduled for November in Canberra. The Australian Government is committed to transparency and maintaining a strongly consultative approach throughout these trade negotiations – and DFAT has published a document which provides a summary of Australia's broad negotiating aims and approach.
The A-EU FTA continues to be a key component of the work within market, with MLA working with industry to cultivate relationships with key influencers across Europe as negotiations continue.
