Goat production hits record highs
Key points
- More than one million goats were processed in the 2025 September quarter – reaching a record high.
- Record goatmeat production was also achieved.
This week, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released official data on goat slaughter and goatmeat production for the September quarter.
In the three months to 30 September 2025, 993,034 adult goats were processed in Australia. A further 23,763 kids were processed in the same period, taking the total for Q3 2025 to more than one million.
This is the largest quarterly volume ever recorded, passing the previous high set in the March 2025 quarter. That quarter was the only other time processed goat numbers had gone above one million.
The higher throughput also lifted goatmeat production. In Q3 2025, output reached 16,225 tonnes.
Year-to-date, production has passed 42,000 tonnes of goatmeat, setting another record.
