2014-15 VIC sheep and cattle saleyard survey results

Cattle

The results of MLA’s annual Victorian cattle saleyard survey, for the year ending June 2015, saw NVLX Wodonga record the highest cattle throughput for the state, with 245,978 head consigned. Selling centres Leongatha and Pakenham recorded numbers of 140,422 head and 138,706 head for the year, to be ranked second and third, respectively. A total of 107,437 head were offered at Warrnambool in forth position, while Ballarat yarded 71,296 head to place fifth.  Bairnsdale and Camperdown placed sixth and seventh, consigning 68,966 head and 64,138 head, respectively. Colac placed eighth, offering 49,015 head for the year and Hamilton and Wangaratta came in at ninth and tenth position.

Sheep

MLA’s Victorian sheep saleyard survey for the 2014-15 financial year identified Ballarat as the largest selling centre, having consigned 1,516,526 head. Bendigo and Hamilton also yarded over one million head each, to come in in second and third positions, respectively. Numbers at Horsham reached 530,916 head for the year, the fourth largest throughput for the state. Ouyen and Swan Hill secured fifth and sixth position, offering a total of 250,810 head and 203,205 head respectively.  Warracknabeal, in seventh position, consigned 117,058 head for the year. Wycheproof, Bairnsdale and Leongatha closed out the top ten.
