Friday daily cattle summary
At Roma Prime, numbers eased slightly to 623 head. Quality varied across all categories, with all the usual major processor buyers operating in a mixed market. Good conditioned bullocks and grown heifers sold to strong demand, however processor buyers were more selective on plainer lines.
- Heavy C4 grown steers to slaughter averaged 318¢/kg
- Medium D3 cows to processors sold to 263¢, averaging 253¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows to the same orders reached 270¢, averaging 266¢/kg
Consignments at Dubbo increased 41%, to 3,415 head. Despite the heavy rainfall, quality throughout the offering was good - with a notable selection of prime cattle seen in all sections. A handful of particularly good heavy weight cows and bullocks were penned, while vealer and yearling trade steers trended cheaper overall.
- Light C2 yearling steers to restockers were back 20¢, averaging 391¢, while heavy C3 lines to feed averaged 372¢, back 17¢/kg
- Heavy C3 yearling heifers to processors gained 7¢, averaging 353¢/kg
- Heavy C4 grown steers to slaughter were back 11¢, averaging 333¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows to processors eased 6¢, averaging 274¢/kg
Cattle numbers at Bairnsdale declined 7%, to 524 head. Export sections were well supplied and the usual buying group were in attendance, hoewever not all operating fully in a mixed market. Cows made up the bulk of the yarding, and prime cattle were very limited.
- Heavy D3 yearling heifers to processors gained 8¢, averaging 346¢/kg
- Heavy D3 grown steers to slaughter were back 7¢, averaging 342¢/kg
- Medium E1 dairy cows to the same orders eased 6¢, averaging 209¢/kg
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) finished at 705¢, back 1.25¢ on where it had finished the previous day
- Trade steers held firm on 373¢/kg lwt
- Medium steers were back 3¢, to 333¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers were back 5¢, to 332¢/kg lwt
- Medium cows were back 3¢, on 259¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers were back 1¢, on 381¢/kg lwt
