Sales at Naracoorte and SALE largest in SA

Cattle

According to MLA’s 2016-17 saleyard survey, cattle saleyard throughput in SA for the year was 261,467 head. Naracoorte recorded a total throughput of 105,697 head, ranking it first (in volume terms) in SA. Mount Gambier ranked second, with a total of 78,787 cattle consigned over the year. Meanwhile Mount Compass numbers totalled 47,809 head, placing third, and SALE Dublin ranked fourth, with a throughput of 20,539 head for the year. Consignments to Millicent totalled 8,635 head, placing it fifth in the state.

Sheep

A total of 1.1 million sheep were yarded in SA for the 2016-17 financial year. More than half of the state’s total yarding was consigned to SALE Dublin which recorded a throughput of 578,258 head for the year, ranking it in first position. Naracoorte placed second with 382,844 head, while Mount Gambier was in third position, reporting a total throughput of 165,058 head.
