Summary

MLA, NSW TAFE and the Australian Lot Feeders Association have undertaken a significant amount of work to develop qualifications to meet the specific training needs of the feedlot industry in Australia. Qualifications in the Rural Production Training Package RTE03 were contextualised for those working as pen riders, in feeding and milling, as well as in maintenance activities at feedlots.
This provided industry specific Certificate III level training within an existing set of generic rural production and agriculture qualifications. With the review of the RTE03 Training Package in 2009, the opportunity arose to better address the training needs of the feedlot industry through the development of three specialist qualifications for workers in the three key areas of feedlot operation:
Pen riders
Feeding and milling
Maintenance
This project developed these three specialist feedlot qualifications for submission to Agrifood Skills Australia for inclusion in the Services sector of the AHC09 Training Package. Once approved by Agrifood Skills Australia, the three new training packages were made available to industry through the TAFE NSW - New England Institute.
