Background
The Australian Food Safety Centre (http://www.foodsafetycentre.com.au) continues in the footsteps of the Australian Food Safety Centre of Excellence, which was an initiative of the National Food Industry Strategy. The FSC is fully self-funding. MLA will continue its subscription to be a member of the FSC.
Purpose & Description
The Food Safety Centre provides services to registered Members and MLA in the areas of:

- Providing a capability map for Australian food safety R&D resources
- Consulting with MLA on the direction of R&D undertaken by the FSC
- Collecting and collating general food safety news (four issues per year) for the MLA “Meat Safety News Digest”. This publication will inform stakeholders of recent news relevant to the future food safety research agenda for the red meat industry.
Objective
1. Provide MLA with assistance in locating appropriate R&D resources;
2. Consult with MLA on the direction of R&D within the Food Safety Centre;
3. Collect and collate relevant food safety information relevant to the red meat industry’s food safety R&D program.
