Summary

The findings have resulted in a major shift in the proposed approach to move to a broader project intended to produce valid and credible descriptions of the causes of death in cattle exported over long distances from Australia. A critical part of this shift is a move to the development of systems designed for industry to collect valid and credible mortality data in a sustainable manner beyond the completion of this project. The shift has meant that the proposed project has had to develop new objectives and methods. The outcomes will include better training and task definition for veterinarians and stock persons, improvement in the validity and coverage of mortality (and morbidity) data from export vessels, improvement in quality assurance and reporting, and continual feedback for veterinarians and stock persons with improved morale and interest in their responsibilities.
