Summary
The Plant Performance Rating Tool is a critical element in allowing industry and AQIS to move to a new meat inspection model. AMIC and AQIS have worked jointly to develop and implement a revised Plant Performance Rating System based on a Product Hygiene Index (PHI). The tool will provide continued benefits to the industry as a result of the newly acquired knowledge. The new system was designed to utilise, as far as possible, existing plant systems for assessing plant and product hygiene, against agreed measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
The new Rating system also underpins key elements of reforms to current meat inspection and verification arrangements being pursued with Government through the Ministerial Task Force.
This contract allowed numerous meetings to take place between industry partners in order to ensure communication of all new aspects. The project also funded the final report for the Plant Performance Ranking Tool which:reviews the validity and value of the current KPIs and their weightingsconsiders and recommends future reporting formatsassesses any major discrepancies between PHI and AQIS Form 4 reportsoutlines any outstanding matters raised by plants or AQIS staff with national implications or which might necessitate review of the PHIconfirms the reliability of the PHI as the key measure of a plant's performance in order to determine whether a basis exists for considering changes to audit frequency based on a plant's performance history
