Summary

The Feed Demand Calculator allows producers to gain an appreciation of the pattern of feed supply and demand over a twelve-month period, the location of "feed gaps" and the ways in which modifying the livestock enterprise might help to close these gaps.
A study into usability issues and user satisfaction around the MLA online tools (on-farm focus) in 2013 revealed several usability and accessibility  issues, including a lack of help resources and online support for users to fully understand the meaning and practical value of complex results.
The Feed Demand Calculator has undergone a recent re-design and re-development to address many of the identified usability issues that producers were faced with. While the updated tool is now more intuitive to use, an engaging, easy to understand help resource; explaining when, why and how to use the tool, and how to interpret the results, will add further value to the Feed Demand Calculator. It will also familiarise users with the new interface of the tool.
For this project E.EAO.3014, the Consultant will develop educational content for an online audio-visual presentation (broken down into individual modules) to better communicate the concept, benefits and best use of the Feed Demand Calculator to users. The content must be provided to MLA in a format that is easy to read and edit (i.e. MS Word).
Where appropriate and needed, screenshots of the prototype (or drawings) should be inserted to clarify what the text is referring to (for example when describing different scenarios and their interpretations), so that these can be re-created and shown in a screen recording at a later stage.
The tool has recently undergone an extensive re-design and re-development which involved the input from various stakeholder and subject matter experts (both internal and external to MLA). While this addressed many of the usability and accessibilty issues previously identified, the tool will further benefit from an easy-to-understand tutorial which explains step-by-step how and when to use the FDC, and how to interpret the results it provides.
Project E.ONL.1503, the consultant as the technical expert of the FDC will develop an online video tutorial (broken down into four modules) to better communicate the concept, benefits and best use of the FDC to users.
