Summary

This project was part of MLA’s commitment to Beef CRC in the project 7.3 (Gene discovery; 2010 - 2011 total CRC expenditure of $1,732, 924).
The project generated genomic sequence for Brahmans and Angus cattle that would be a valuable strategic resource for future research on Australian cattle.
The outputs led to more accurate genomic selection and to the identification of candidate mutations underlying some of the quantitative production traits discovered in Beef CRC’s gene discovery research program that formed the necessary foundation for this sequencing project.
The results form part of an international database of bovine sequence. By contributing our sequence Australia has access to sequence of other cattle generated by Canadian and USA researchers.
