Summary

PPS is a farmer group conducting pasture research and extension in the upper Wimmera central region of Victoria. Since its' inception in 2007 124 farm enterprises have joined as members whose operations have over 0.5 million sheep and 12,00 cattle. PPS conducts an annual conference as part of its events program consisting of a seminar session, farm tour and annual dinner with a guest speaker. PPS attracts high profile speakers for the event as well as presenting results of local research and farm trials. This years conference is focusing on legumes and their role in animal production systems with presenters Dr Derrick Moot from Lincoln University in NZ and Dr Phil Nichols from WA confirmed. There will also be a session on meat eating quality presented by Professor David Pethick from Murdoch University in W.A. Dr Moot will stay on to present a Lucerne master class for PPS members on the morning following the conference. There will also be presentations by PPS members Charlie de Fegely and Simon Brady looking at regional production issues. This years farm tour will take in extensive Lucerne plantings on the property of PPS member enterprise Barton, one of the Hassad group of properties, near Ararat.
