Summary

The report 'Comparative evaluation of non-tariff barriers for Australian red meat trade - A revision' updates the previously commissioned (2012) Technical Barriers to Australia's Trade in Red Meat.

There are numerous types of non-tariff impediments impacting red meat products.  These can be categorised into 5 groups that reflect the general nature of their effect on commercial export activity: market access; costs of production; costs of shipment; compliance levels; and administration.

The report found that the value of non-tariff barriers impacting the Australian red meat industry is estimated at A$3.4 billion.
