Summary
The purpose of the Grant is to fund a collaborative research and development (R&D) project to support continued innovation in Australia's primary industries (the project). The Grant is being provided as part of the Rural R&D for Profit programme.
The objective of the programme is to realise productivity and profitability improvements for primary producers, through:
a) generating knowledge, technologies, products or processes that benefit primary producers;
b) strengthening pathways to extend the results of rural R&D, including understanding the barriers to adoption; and
c) establishing and fostering industry and research collaborations that form the basis for ongoing innovation and growth of Australian agriculture.
This project will enable beef, sheep and pig farmers to have access to more accurate descriptions of the key attributes that influence the value of their livestock: carcase lean meat yield; eating quality; and compliance to market specifications. This will be delivered through advanced measurement technologies, in synergy with abattoir automation where appropriate. Enhanced feedback systems will provide producers with new information to improve decisions on breeding and compliance to market specifications. Meat processing partners will have new tools and data to improve processing efficiency and improve their capacity to allocate product to the most valuable market end-point thereby increasing the wealth of the value chain participants. The project will capitalise on the cooperation of industry stakeholders to maximise effective decision making, reduce risk and optimise profit for all partners.
Developing and improving these technologies and systems will increase competitiveness, and profitability in the meat value chain.
Summary V.RDP.2001
The purpose of this project is to initiate the Rural R&D for Profit Grant project, "Advanced measurement technologies for globally competitive Australian meat", and undertake initial planning and management. This will involve engaging management personnel who will develop planning schedules, budgets and stakeholder contracts. Operational plans for each program within the Project will be developed with guidance from initial meetings with project stakeholders. An additional outcome from these meetings will be the creation of a project structure with appropriate committees. The final operational plan will be critiqued at an annual review meeting in August 2016.
Summary V.RDP.2012
This CMA is to initiate the support of an experienced and industry respected project manager to accelerate DEXA yield adoption activities. MLA will form a whole of industry "Objective Measurement Industry Deployment Committee'' to provide direction and determine the rules for any industry wide adoption of all developing objective measurement developments including the data management systems, rules and regulations. An independent person will be appointed as the Executive of the committee.
Summary V.RDP.2013
This CMA is to facilitate Field Demonstration of DEXA yield technology. The DEXA in a box (DIAB) will be transported to various sites for demonstration.
