Summary

The Invasive Animals CRC was successful in its rebid to the Commonwealth for another five years of funding under the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) program for the period 2012/13 to 2016/17.

The IACRC extension is a focused collaboration of 26 participants that together with the Federal science department have committed to invest $72.54 million over five years, comprising $30.754 million cash and $41.786 million in-kind.  MLA agreed to be a supporting participant of the IACRC rebid during 2012 for another round of Commonwealth funding.  MLA committed to invest $2.5 million over five years, comprising 3.4% of the total investment, and 8.1% of the total cash investment, due to the proposed work on invasive and predatory animals that impact on the productivity and profitability of livestock industries in Australia.

As a five year CRC, 39 of the 42 projects are planned to start in July 2012. The required cash over the first 2 years for those projects where MLA has a direct or indirect interest are listed. This project breakdown shows that the proposed $800,000 per year investment in years 1 and 2 will be invested and leveraged in projects of direct interest to MLA, including the RHD Boost release project and the impacts of wild dogs.
