Summary

The Livestock Global Assurance Program (LGAP) is aimed at helping Australian exporters of cattle, sheep and goats demonstrate they are meeting animal welfare standards and other regulatory requirements.

It involves a range of internationally recognised Standards, and regular independent audits. LGAP is delivered by AniMark.

The development of an information technology (IT) conformance system will allow AniMark, auditors and participants in livestock export process to record and monitor their activities, report any non-compliance with the Standards, and record any sanctions and actions as a result of breaches.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this project are to:

  • Provide AniMark with an information technology system to implement, manage, monitor and maintain LGAP.
  • Fulfil AniMark’s obligations as a Third Party Provider of Assurance Services agreement with the regulator of Australian livestock exports.
  • Assist Australian livestock exporters in managing their regulatory obligations under the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS).

Benefits to industry

This project will provide a robust, fully tried and tested IT conformance system that is fit-for-purpose to support the effective implementation of LGAP.

Economic benefits will be captured as the program is rolled out, including reduced duplication of audits and costs of regulation to exporters.
