Summary

The North Australia Beef Research Council (NABRC) provides leadership and advice to organisations who either invest in, or undertake, beef cattle research, development and extension (RD&E) in Queensland, the Northern Territory and the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia.

NABRC has a sub-structure of regional committees, called Regional Beef Research Committes (RBRCs), each led by a local producer chair. Each year, MLA allocates funding to cover sitting fees, travel and meeting expenses for these regional committees. This project covered those expenses for 2020.

Objectives

This project covered the 2019-20 financial year allocation of funds for the eleven NABRC regional committees and for NABRC to administer these funds on behalf of MLA to conduct regional consultation relating to RD&A opportunities.

Benefits to industry

NABRC supports MLA's annual investment call by providing producer priorities and guiding investment decisions of grassfed beef levies into RD&A.

NABRC provides a forum for red meat industry and RD&A agencies to review, debate and consolidate priorities that emerge from the regional committees.

MLA action

MLA and the regional consultation process will continue to work with the RACs into the future, and will continue to allocate the necessary funds for these councils to meet industry needs.
