Project start date: 31 August 2021
Publication date: 19 August 2021
Project status: Completed
Livestock species: Grain-fed Cattle, Grass-fed Cattle, Sheep, Goat
Relevant regions: National

Summary

This project was established to deliver strategic communications advice and implementation support in three areas:

1. SAFEMEAT
This project established foundation communication materials for SAFEMEAT including a website, fact sheets, industry communique and enabled SAFEMEAT to communicate more clearly to stakeholders.

2. Sheep Traceability Working Group (STWG)

Communications were planned to highlight industry’s commitment to continuous improvement of the sheep traceability system, and focus on themes or areas of focus and achievement from the STWG. A draft summary report on the STWG’s progress and key messages were developed, together with a media statement supporting the release of the report.

3. Industry issues
Issues supported included PFAS, the NLIS Early Warning system and Hormone Growth Promotants. Communications plans were developed, agreed and implemented with stakeholders. All issues were managed successful with the input and support of stakeholders with no negative outcomes.

This project also supported completion of work that was underway or planned to underpin the communication of industry’s integrity system (NLIS, LPA and NVDs) to red meat producers and the broader red meat industry as outlined in the ISC Communication, Stakeholder Engagement and Adoption strategy implementation workplan.

Objectives

1. Manage the implementation of the communications plan for SAFEMEAT.
2. Manage the implementation of the communications plan for the Sheep Traceability Working Group (STWG).
3. Provide issues management and communication support for industry issues.
4. Develop communication resources to support the Integrity Systems Company in its messaging to all target audiences about ISC, the red meat integrity system, the integrity programs (NLIS, eNVD, LPA and LDL) and other related company activities.

Benefits to industry

SAFEMEAT now has a set of foundation communications materials with a consistent look and feel, and in particular a refreshed website which provides a modern and professional public-facing communications channel. SAFEMEAT Partners have had input to development of these materials, creating support and momentum for SAFEMEAT communications overall.

ISC has a suite of current resources to support its ongoing communications and engagement with red meat producers and other stakeholders on various aspects of the integrity system.
