Project start date: 25 August 2016
Project end date: 30 January 2019
Publication date: 05 February 2021
Livestock species: Grain-fed Cattle, Grass-fed Cattle
Relevant regions: NSW, Queensland

Summary

The aim of the project was to support Oakey to adopt and implement Livestock Data Link (LDL) in their supply chains by providing carcase feedback information to their suppliers via LDL.

This projects objective was to provide a unique opportunity to expose young professionals to the industry, align to MLA's LDL initiative specifically the adoption of the tool to Oakey's producer group and develop the animal health and disease feedback for cattle.

This project was terminated prematurely and a final report was not produced.

Objectives

The project focused on:

  • supplier feedback
  • the development of animal health and disease functionality within LDL
  • investigating whether feedlot information could be included in the platform.
  • capability building to further develop producer knowledge and skills in the red meat industry.

Benefits to industry

Although the project was terminated, the few outcomes produced were fed into the ongoing development of the LDL systems.

MLA action

This project was terminated because of the drought conditions in Queensland limiting the supply of livestock to support delivery of this project.

MLA has sucessfully continued to work on LDL to produce similar objectives to other red meat enterprises.
