Summary
The purpose of this project is to drive the implementation of actions identified by red meat industry stakeholders that will improve red meat industry supply chain integrity. The implementation of the identified actions (through responsible agencies) will minimise the risk of, and impact from, potential supply chain incidents that could harm the product integrity reputation of Australia’s red meat industry.
Objectives
1. Engage with each of the nominated responsible agencies identified within the action plan to seek agreement on their willingness to undertake the assigned actions and nominate an expected completion date.
2. Establish a mechanism for sourcing regular updates from the nominated responsible agencies on their progress with implementation of the actions they are responsible for.
3. Facilitate a workshop with red meat industry and government stakeholders 12 months after the action plan implementation commences, to discuss and assess progress and review any challenges in implementation.
Key findings
A selection of simulations were prepared to illustrate the magnitude of the market impacts from potential industry crises that involved a breakdown in commercial, industry-owned and government-controlled integrity systems.
Benefits to industry
By implementing this action plan the risk of, and impact from, potential supply chain incidents that could harm the product integrity reputation of Australia’s red meat industry will be minimised.
MLA action
Several actions have been determined to be within the scope of SAFEMEAT as it has the capacity to play a coordinating role and is recognised as such by relevant stakeholders.
Future research
RMAC will take the lead in agreeing a process to ensure the Action Plan is implemented and performance of the agencies responsible for implementing individual actions is monitored and reported.
