Summary

The Australian Beef Industry Foundation (ABIF) is committed to investing in young people, education and information to develop a beef industry that is highly profitable, sustainable and supportive of rural communities and their needs. 
 
The scholarship supported 18 scholars over a three-year period to participate in the Marcus Oldham rural leadership program. The Marcus Oldham leadership program, which commenced in 1992, is recognised as one of the longest running rural leadership programs in the nation. It has developed a strong reputation in the agricultural and agribusiness sector, attracting support from a wide range of industry and rural community groups from diverse regional backgrounds.

Objectives

This investment developed the skills and knowledge of participants to enable them to: 
•    undertake a leadership role in their industry or community 
•    competently represent their industry or community in decision-making forums 
•    understand and address the issues facing rural industries and rural communities.

Key findings

This investment forms part of the innovation capability sub program industry leadership imperative – developing enhanced leadership capability developing impactful industry leaders and ambassadors for MLA.

The program develops the skills and knowledge of participants to enable them to:

MLA action

Developing enhanced leadership capability to develop impactful industry leaders and ambassadors is an ongoing strategic investment area for MLA.

Future research

MLA continues to invest in the development of young people as it is crucial to building and retaining a skilled and capable future workforce.
