Summary

The workshops delivered topics around animal welfare and biosecurity for AWOs, abattoirs and local government officials. From four workshops, more than 400 people attended the sessions. There was an increased knowledge from around 50% to 75% of the test results. It is important to have additional training providers to service the industry, adding to the core projects on animal welfare of LEP/MLA.

Objectives

1. Deliver two animal welfare and biosecurity workshops
2. Deliver two Eid workshops
3. Rapid assessment for lumpy skin disease (LSD) Buffer Zones project.

Key findings

The support for Eid workshops is particularly important to complement the exporters' co-funding projects around Eid in their market. Having a refresher training on animal welfare for the supply chain can reduce the risk of breach and leakage during Eid slaughter.

Benefits to industry

This project strengthens the animal welfare and biosecurity standards in Indonesia, especially involving Australian cattle in-market.

MLA action

Continue the support for FAWO in FY26.
