Summary
This project conducted a review of an existing supply chain in Vietnam to analyse and assess opportunities to vertically integrate their supply chain from feedlot, to abattoir to butchery.
Objectives
- conduct a short review of business systems, current infrastructure and SOPs
- conduct education sessions with relevant members of the business to demonstrate the opportunities with processing changes
- provide a report of recommendations to the businesses on completion of the review and education sessions.
Key findings
- Opportunities exist for value adding and sales through butchery stores and modern retail.
- The abattoir within the supply chain was previously mothballed and is now operational again after the results of the project.
- Branding initiatives are still a step further than currently possible from the business, but hypothetically can be implemented and present opportunities for futher growth.
Benefits to industry
Enabled the importer to process more cattle through their own supply chain, reducing costs and providing greater sales channels for Australian cattle. This can lead to increased Australian cattle exports.
MLA action
Use these learnings when developing projects around the region.
Future research
Further development of branding if product suitable and willingness to expand operations by the business.
