Summary

The Feedlot Regional Investment Study quantified the economic contribution and broader economic impact of Australia’s feedlot industry. The research found that in 2023–24 the feedlot sector contributed $4.6 billion to Australia's GDP and supported more than 24,000 full-time equivalent jobs. The study also demonstrated that feedlots play a critical role in the beef supply chain, regional economies, and national productivity, with new feedlot investment generating substantial economic growth and employment benefits in regional communities.

Benefits to industry

- The project provides strong evidence of the feedlot sector’s critical role in improving supply chain productivity, enabling more consistent cattle supply and supporting higher-quality beef outcomes.

- It strengthens industry confidence and supports investment by demonstrating the significant economic contribution of feedlots, including $4.6 billion to GDP and over 24,000 jobs.

- The findings enhance stakeholder understanding of feedlots’ upstream and downstream benefits, helping to justify expansion and reinforce their importance to regional economies.
