Summary
The food export sector in New South Wales (NSW) is experiencing robust demand, driven by increasing global interest in high-quality, sustainable products, particularly from the agricultural and red meat industries. In 2023, the state’s exports contributed significantly to the economy, valued at $150 billion, and representing 19% of the state's Gross Domestic Product.
Investment NSW, alongside Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), believe that the successful Aussie Beef Mates program can be expanded to promote various sectors through a multi-year strategy. This approach will involve hosting high-profile delegations and executing global events that highlight Australia's agricultural prowess.
To manage budgetary constraints, MLA proposes breaking the program into smaller, manageable components, enabling it to commence immediately with an inbound Aussie Beef Mates delegation and 6 events across South East Asia. Budget permitting, MLA and Investment NSW will leverage the previous years investment to execute future global events and delegations, ensuring long-term engagement and benefit to the agriculture sector in subsequent year.
MLA remains committed to co-funding 50% of the initiative and will assist Investment NSW in seeking additional support from other agricultural sectors, enhancing the potential impact of the program across the broader export landscape.
Objectives
Up to 15+ influential food professionals from around the globe will attend a week-long immersion in NSW. The tour will showcase NSW’s diversity and fantastic food offerings, with a particular focus on engaging with regional areas, primary producers and export stakeholders. Attendees will be selected based on their overall potential to inspire others as influential ambassadors.
MLA will coordinate up to 6 co-branded and customer focused events across South East Asia. The events will provide an opportunity for the Aussie Beef Maes to share the experiences, knowledge, and insights gained from their time in Australia. MLA will agree and coordinate events in collaboration with Investment NSW offices globally.
