Summary

Barriers to adoption of eNVD and paperless livestock consignments have been identified by Digital Product Officers to include the identification of cattle when received at sites without receival staff, and resistance by transporters to embrace the use of the eNVD mobile application. This project provided a proof of concept for an Automated Livestock Receival System that utilises eNVDs to provide verified head counts and information on receival to the livestock receiver and sender in real time, thereby leveraging the use of the eNVD app to facilitate the delivery of valuable information throughout the supply chain.

Objectives

This project achieved its objectives of developing a proof of concept for the animal counting technology. The technology was developed at JBS and will be used by the JBS supply chain to verify the receival and head count of animals facilitated by the use of eNVDs. The valuable information provided by the ALRS is dependent on the use of eNVDs and uptake of the Automated Livestock Receival System is expected to increase the willingness to use and uptake of paperless livestock consignment by livestock senders and transporters.

MLA action

Learnings from this project will be taken to inform future research into data capability building and integration using key MLA technologies like eNVD.
