Electronic Identification (EID) sheep and goats - driving production improvements 

Agriculture Victoria invites you to attend an on-farm EID field day at Penny and Jason Trompf’s property ‘Northgate Park’ at Greta in North-East Victoria.

The day will focus on increasing total productivity in sheep enterprises, including data from measuring and monitoring performance of ewes at Northgate Park.

Schedule and presenters:

  • Jason Trompf, farm owner - Northgate Park – turning potential into profit.
  • Warren Straw, Director EID Sheep and Goats - Rationale for the introduction of sheep and goat electronic identification in Victoria.
  • Richard Norton, Managing Director, MLA - MLA Integrity Systems; supporting the lamb value chain and building consumer trust.

Morning concurrent sessions (30 minutes each)

  • Hannah Marriott, farm manager and Nuffield Scholar - Linking lambs with dams to understand reproductive efficiency.
  • Lyndon Kubeil, Agriculture Victoria - Measuring individual wool traits to inform balanced selection.
  • Nick Linden, Agriculture Victoria - Monitoring lamb growth rates to achieve targets.
  • Tim Hollier, Agriculture Victoria - Livestock Data Link (LDL) and animal health feedback; What you can expect in the future.

Afternoon concurrent sessions (30 minutes each)

  • Kate McCue, Agriculture Victoria and Jason Trompf - Fit for farm - Fit for market. Using carcase feedback to inform on farm decisions.
  • Jack Briscoe, Livestock Contractor - What is critical to me - Which tags and what equipment?
  • Brendan Roberson, Livestock Scanner - Pregnancy scanning; integrating EID and pregnancy scanning to deliver lifetime reproductive performance.
  • Catherine James, Livestock Health and Biosecurity Network - Introduction to LPA; what are your requirements?
