Goat Production Field Day

Free goat production field day

Goatmeat producers are invited to attend a free Goat Production Field Day on Friday, 18 March at ‘Buena Vista’, Collie, in central west New South Wales, supported by MLA.

Award-winning NSW goat producers Jo and Craig Stewart – who produce their own paddock-to-plate branded goatmeat under their brand The Gourmet Goat Lady – will host the on-farm field day following the success of the inaugural event last year.

The program includes presentations from guest speakers to help producers improve production and herd health, as well as hands-on demonstrations and plenty of time for discussions with other goat producers.

Guest speakers and topics include:

  • Goat production at Buena Vista – Paddock to Plate: Craig and Jo Stewart, ‘Buena Vista’
  • Goat industry overview: Melanie Smith, Meat & Livestock Australia
  • Data-driven decision making: Trudie Atkinson, NSW DPI
  • Meat eating quality and consumer preferences: Jarrod Lees, University of New England
  • All bucks are not equal – selecting the right one for your herd: Colin Ramsay, Dudauman Park Boer Goat Stud & Ian Manwaring, Contender Meat Goats
  • Measuring to improve: Jenny Bradley, ‘New Armatree’
  • Herd health – focusing on managing worms: Jillian Kelly, Local Land Services
  • Worm management – the latest research results: Emma Doyle, University of New England
  • Business operations and market specifications: Diwash Karki, Nyngan Abattoir
  • Marketing options: Jason Hartin, Schute Bell.

The field day is from 8am to 4.30pm, with lunch provided. BYO chairs.
