What should you expect from your breeding does?

12 February 2019

A new MLA-funded project which looks at identifying and promoting ways of improving the reproductive performance of meat goat herds in Australia is asking the question: what sort of performance should you be able to expect from your breeding does?

On behalf of MLA and Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA), Forest Hill Consulting is conducting the project to help industry learn more about:

  • performance measures your breeding does are capable of achieving
  • possibilities in terms of different management systems
  • what’s sustainable and what makes economic sense
  • current practices and new learnings within the industry.

Want to get involved?

All Australian goat producers are invited to get involved in the project – no matter how large or small, or whether your system is intensive or based on wild harvest.

You can complete a brief survey about your goat reproduction program (approximately 10–15 minutes) online. Producers are asked to contribute by Sunday 17 February 2019.

Alternatively, you can email Natarsha at contact@doughfromdoes.org to arrange a time to complete the survey via a telephone conversation. It’s up to you to decide if you want your information/response to remain anonymous.

Your name will be included in the project database, which is maintained by MLA and used for improved communication and extension within the industry.
