Promising rain on the way for WA – BOM

26 June 2015

The latest three month rainfall outlook issued by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) points towards drier than average conditions across parts of southeast Australia for the next three months. Above average rainfall is expected for the majority of WA during the July to September period, while, in contrast, the outlook for most of eastern Australia is fairly neutral.

With the El Niño in the Pacific, the vast majority of Queensland and NSW has a 40-50% chance of exceeding the median rainfall over the three months to September. Victoria is anticipating drier conditions, especially along the coastline, with only a 35% chance of exceeding median rainfall, while northern parts of the state have a roughly equal chance of a wetter or drier three month period.

Most of WA can expect a 55% chance of median rainfall in the next three months, while central and northern regions of the state have an even greater chance (60-70%), which may provide a boost for WA crops.

July to September daytime temperatures are likely to be warmer than average across the southern coastline and parts of northern Australia, while overnight temperatures are also likely to be warmer for the majority of the country.
