Summary
In response to producer and broader industry demand, this project was to improve the relevance and capacity of the current MLA Cost of Production tools by advancing the capacity of the calculators to account for multiple enterprises (beef, sheepmeat, goats, wool ad cropping) into one tool.
The tool will enable more sophisticated analysis of business performance as it will have a capacity for calculations to be taken to a measure of whole farm operating return, whole farm assets under management and return on equity (inclusive of capital gain). The calculator is available in prototype format. Subsequent piloting with red meat producers and advisors confirmed additional development is required to improve the usability of the calculator.
