Summary

The Sheep Genomic Program (SGP) is a $30M joint initiative involving MLA, AWI and 11 research organisations (AgResearch Limited, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research
Organisation, Monash University, Department of Primary Industries –Victoria, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries - South Australia, University of Adelaide, University of Melbourne, University of New England, University of Sydney, University of Western Australia and University of Western Sydney). SGP started in 2003 and all research projects were complete and expenditure for the program  finalized in FY2010.
SGP research output included:the Australian contribution to publishing the sheep genomedeveloping a sheep 50K SNP chip which is now one of the main genomic analysis tools used for genomics research and breeding by industrythe Falkiner Memorial Field Station experiment which developed a large phenotype X genotype database for determination of genomic correlations for the development and commercialisation of into Sheep Genetic Molecular Breeding Values.
Most of the other SGP research outputs focused on discovery of basic information for sheep genetic pathways. A lot of the work has been, or will be, published and requires further research and investment to develop products which could be delivered to industry.
