Summary

Ongoing professional development of people who work with producers to improve on-farm performance and environmental outcomes for the industry is important to assist in the adoption of R&D outcomes. MLA and AWI jointly ran an R&D Insights Forum in March 2009 to provide an opportunity for agribusiness professionals and managers of extension programs within the red meat and wool industries to become familiar with current reserach and their relevance to the business these professional work with. Farm consultants, state department and CRC extension officers and producers invovled in influential groups and programs attended the event.
A committee was brought together to develop the event content to ensure it was relevant to those in attendance and researchers presented to the audience on the projects they were working on. An evaluation of feedback received from participants showed an average rating of 8 (out of 10) for presentations, content and relevance. 94% of participants indicated that they had learnt something new at the forum and 72% indicated that they will make changes to the technical information that they deliver to their clients. These projects funded costs associated with running this event including committee participation, speaker costs, venue and catering charges.
