Summary

There is a wide range of data collected within the supply chains of the Australian red meat industry, but this is rarely used to the collective advantage of all players. The establishment of the Livestock Data Link program (LDL) is the first step in providing a mechanism to enable greater utilisation of this information by organising it into a format that can be used to aid in decision-making throughout the supply chain.
One of the projects required a technology supplier to build, develop and possibly maintain an extensive red meat and livestock industry library database, used primarily by producers of livestock in order for them to make productivity improvements, therefore improving the overall productivity of the red meat and livestock industry.
The other project was Phase II of the LDL Project which involved engagement with two state departments to address the tasks of:-
 1) demonstrating the use of a live data system to producers
 2) identifying and quantifying the value proposition for industry
3) developing an easily accessible information resource to provide solutions to problems of non-compliance for beef and sheep meat
4) scoping the integration of Meat Standards Australia (MSA) feedback into LDL
5) integration of sheep meat into the LDL program via development of carcase specifications, processor engagement and design a pilot for industry implementation
6) designed and developed a communication and extension framework including monitoring, evaluation & reporting
