Summary

In 2006, the Feedlot Industry Accreditation Committee initiated a review and update of the National Guidelines for Beef Cattle Feedlots in Australia. The process was undertaken to ensure feedlots had access to the latest scientific information on environmental management practices, and that these practices addressed the changing community expectations for environmental management of feedlots. During the initial review process, it quickly became apparent that this could not be undertaken in isolation, and the National Beef Cattle Feedlot Environmental Code of Practice was also included in the review and update process. Both documents were extensively revised into new editions – the National Guidelines for Beef Cattle Feedlots in Australia (3rd Edition) and the National Beef Cattle Feedlot Environmental Code of Practice (2nd Edition) - which were then made available to industry as reference documents for the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme.
