Summary

This project was developed to investigate the current show society  "Led Steer" pathway and its potential effect on eating quality, as opposed to the eating quality of direct consignment cattle. Through positive results the project aimed to develop a pathway which would allow cattle entered into competitions conducted by various show societies to be MSA graded.
Results indicated that the led steer animals had sufficient eating quality to be put through the MSA grading system. MSA Management and the MSA Beef Pathways and Taskforce committees approved led steers with the requirement that the animal had access to sufficient water, the animal had not been to any previous shows and that on plant a saleyard penalty be applied to the carcases.
