Summary

The project involved assembling a committee to finalise the draft amendments of the Australian Cattle Trade Rules (ACTR), and encourage industry uptake. The Australian Cattle Trade Rules (ACTR) are standard terms and conditions that assist in the contracting of cattle.  They underpin cattle contracts, forming the basis for trade and as such, they guide the actions of the buyer and seller for the life of the contract. The ACTR was launched in December 2007, and was last updated in 2010.  They are administered by Grain Trade Australia (GTA), the expert in standards, trade rules and dispute resolution.
The ACTR was endorsed by Australian Lot Feeders Association (ALFA), Australian Livestock & Property Agents (ALPA) and Cattle Council of Australia (CCA). Grain Trade Australia (GTA) routinely has independent experts provide technical advice on different aspects of the grain trade rules, and it is therefore appropriate that the ACTR was reviewed in a similar manner. Furthermore, the ACTR  had only minimal uptake by industry at that date, therefore it was appropriate that the benefits and importance of such contracts were encouraged and promoted.
