Summary
These funds were used to support a one day workshop to determine the key messages on alternative fertilisers. With the significant rise in fertilizer costs over the last 10 years, producers are keen to explore alternative options for improving soil fertility. MLA has invested in a number of projects in response to this across a number of PDS projects to establish the value and opportunities presented by alternative fertilisers.
The project E.PDS.1305 A guide to Alternative Fertilisers for beef and sheep meat production systems was inititated to review current and developing PDS field data sets comparing alternate fertilisers and, where appropriate, aggregate those for analysis to develop a single report of the weight of evidence of efficacy.This workshop was to allow pasture scientists and producer perspectives to be included in the report. The funds covered costs associated with the venue, catering, flight and attendance fees for participants.
