Summary

MLA operates a number of information systems for industry programs including Meat Standards Australia, the Livestock Production Assurance program, National Vendor Declarations, Livestock Data Link and the National Livestock Identification System.  These information systems were mostly developed independently at different points in time to address specific issues. As these systems have grown and evolved over time, the need for greater integration and data sharing between the systems has also grown.
This project reviewed the information systems and their underlying architecture, assessing opportunities for improvement across areas such as system infrastructure, system integration, data sharing and system governance.
A range of recommendations were made to leverage the improvement opportunities, including a suggested IT architecture roadmap. These findings will assist MLA to formulate and implement strategies for these information systems in line with the latest industry best practices.
