Summary
Several consultants (such as Greenleaf Enterprises, Nick Hazel) were engaged during 2017-2018 to provide strategic portfolio review and input in MLA's High Value Foods Frontier program. Using their Food Industry networks and business acumen, analysis of current and past project scopes and recent $14M MDC and industry funded investments in "new products" and insights2innovation and CBAs along with gap analysis of key mega trend themes and partners.
Key scope was to assist MLA explore how the High Value Foods Frontier program can accelerate innovation horizon 2 – 3 initiatives beyond incremental red meat products. To further support this work, engagement with Institute for the Future (IFTF) based in USA and subscription to their foresighting tools along with other market insights providers such as GlobalData was undertaken to review signals and trends analysis from a global food perspective.
MLA's Product and Packaging program 2019 are now actioning these recommendations such as opportunity spaces for Australian red meat in Snacks and an Ageing Population and in emerging middle class in Asia. The outcomes from the work has also been used as background into MLA's pending 2020 Measurement and Evaluation Programs review.
