Livestock species: Sheep, Lamb

Summary

This project engages the University of New England as the managing agent of the MLA Resource Flock. The Resource Flock is required to underpin and further develop both traditional and genomic selection principles delivered to industry by Sheep Genetics, especially for hard to measure laboratory traits (or phenotypes) like meat yield, shear force tenderness, and intramuscular fat of lamb meat.

In addition the flocks are used for numerous other experiments such as testing the effects of stress on meat phenotypes and also for calibration of carcase and meat quality measurement devices.
