Summary

This project delivered services to support the administration and delivery of the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS) audit program from 1 July 2020 until 30 June 2023. The NFAS is a Quality Assurance Scheme for the Australian cattle feedlot industry. The NFAS was initiated by the Australian Lot Feeders' Association (ALFA) and ensures that accredited feedlots are audited annually for compliance to food safety, product integrity, environment and animal welfare, industry and legislative requirements.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the project were to:
1. Receive and process applications for NFAS Accreditation
2. Provide technical advice to NFAS accredited feedlots to support audit preparation and compliance
3. Provide administrative services to support the NFAS Audit program
4. Deliver communication services to ensure NFAS accredited feedlots are informed of key program changes
5. Provide Secretariat Services for the Feedlot Industry Accreditation Committee
6. Report on program trends through the delivery of the NFAS annual report

Key findings

All objectives of the project were achieved.

Benefits to industry

The delivery of the NFAS audit program ensures that there are robust processes in place to ensure compliance to food safety, product integrity, environment and animal welfare, industry and legislative requirements across NFAS accredited feedlots.

MLA action

There is no further action required for MLA.

Future research

From July 2023 onwards, these services will be funded directly through the NFAS program.
