Summary
Nutrition EDGE is one of the core packages within MLA’s EDGEnetwork, a training program providing red meat producers in northern Australia with the latest R&D and practical insights to improve business productivity and profitability.
Nutrition EDGE is a three-day workshop on ruminant nutrition comprising of seven modules:
1. Digestion and nutrients
2. Animal nutrient and water requirements
3. Pasture quality, diet selection and diet quality
4. Pasture growth, intake and forage budgeting
5. Mineral nutrition
6. Supplementation and other tools
7. Practical nutritional management.
Objectives
• Revise the structure and delivery of the Nutrition EDGE package to increase engagement, as reflected in feedback forms for each workshop.
• Incorporate and update technical content of the manual.
• Update the participant workbook, deliverer resources and PowerPoint slides in alignment with manual updates.
Key findings
Updates have been made to the Nutrition EDGE content in line with the objectives.
Benefits to industry
Nutrition EDGE was last updated in 2017. This project enables a revision and update of the manual, workbook, deliverer resources and PowerPoint slides. It has also seen the addition of more material related to sheep and goats to make the program more widely relevant.
MLA action
This content will be incorporated into the Nutrition EDGE workshops.
Future research
The currency of the EDGEnetwork relies on regular updates to the material to reflect changing industry standards and guidelines and to incorporate any emerging R&D.
